Early intervention supports infants and toddlers who may be experiencing delays in communication, speech, or language development. This type of therapy focuses on building early communication skills through play, daily routines, and caregiver coaching.
-
Articulation refers to how clearly a child produces individual speech sounds. Difficulties may occur when sounds are omitted, substituted, distorted, or produced incorrectly. Therapy focuses on improving speech clarity by helping children correctly produce speech sounds in words and sentences.
-
Phonology involves how children organize and use sound patterns when speaking. Phonological difficulties occur when speech errors follow predictable patterns that affect overall speech clarity. Therapy focuses on reducing sound pattern errors to improve overall speech intelligibility and communication.
-
Receptive language is the ability to understand spoken language, including words, sentences, directions, and stories. Therapy focuses on, but is not limited to, improving understanding of language, including following directions, answering questions, and understanding stories.
-
Expressive language is the ability to use words, phrases, and sentences to communicate thoughts, needs, and ideas. Therapy focuses on expanding vocabulary and sentence skills so children can clearly express needs, thoughts, and ideas.
-
Fluency refers to the smooth, natural flow of speech. Fluency difficulties may include repetitions, prolongations, or blocks that interfere with communication. Therapy focuses on supporting smooth, confident speech while reducing disruptions that interfere with communication.

Getting Started
Step 2: Targeted and Comprehensive Evaluations
Summit Speech Therapy uses a combination of formal and informal assessment tools, clinical observations, and parent/caregiver interviews to identify your child’s strengths and areas of need. Evaluations are individualized and designed to provide a clear understanding of your child’s communication skills.
Each evaluation includes a comprehensive written report outlining assessment results and personalized recommendations. This report is yours to share with your child’s pediatrician, school, or other professionals at your discretion.
Although Summit Speech Therapy primarily provides services through telepractice, evaluations may also be conducted in the comfort of your home, depending on your location and the clinical determination of the speech-language pathologist following the initial consultation.
Step 1: Free Consultation
Summit Speech Therapy offers a free 15-minute consultation with a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. This informal conversation provides an opportunity to discuss your child’s needs and ask any questions or share any concerns you may have. The consultation helps determine whether speech therapy services are appropriate and what next steps are needed.
Step 3: Individual Therapy Sessions
Following the initial evaluation, therapy goals are developed based on your child’s strengths and areas of need. Sessions are individualized and designed to support speech and language development. Parents and caregivers are actively involved to help promote progress beyond therapy sessions.
Testimonial
At two years old, my daughter was referred for speech therapy. She didn't speak at all; she only grunted or pointed when she wanted something. She received therapy with Ms. Rebeca and quickly showed great improvement! Later, she was discharged from therapy, and now she speaks very well. Ms. Rebeca is very kind, very caring, and above all, very professional. So, parents, if your children need help, don't hesitate to contact Ms. Rebeca. She is a great therapist in both English and Spanish!
